It was announced yesterday that Dorothy’s Ruby slippers,
which were worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, are coming to London. They
are here to feature in a Hollywood costume exhibition at the V&A Museum. This
will be the first time they have been displayed outside of America and will only
be on display for 4 weeks. I wish I lived closer to London, can I travel 7
hours on the train to see a pair of shoes?
The shoes are also to be reunited with Dorothy’s iconic blue
and white pinafore dress for the first time since filming in 1939. The exhibition
is said to have been in planning for the past 5 years. They do say ‘good things
happen to those who wait’. The director of the V&A, Martin Roth said “This
is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these ruby slippers.”
Other pieces to feature in the collection include Holly
Golightly’s black Givenchy dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the gorgeous
green gown Keira Knightly wore as Cecilia Tallis in Atonement.
If you can’t make it to London to see the real deal, high street
stores like New Look and Schuh could take you home with their red sparkly
shoes, just remember to click them three times because...”There’s no place like
home”
